Our Physical and Mental Health

The PSHE curriculum at SJS, is to develop children who have the knowledge and understanding of how to be healthy in mind and body.  We want to develop learners who are emotionally resilient and have the skills to deal with changes and challenges in their lives.

PSHE is embedded in all that we do to enable our children to become independent, responsible, healthy and confident members of society. Our PSHE curriculum has been built with the aim to support the development of the ‘whole child’, by helping them to understand how they are developing personally and socially as well as promoting their social, mental and physical development. Children will be able to develop the ability to tackle the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up.

The units of work aim to build children’s understandings of themselves and others in their immediate community and develop the skills to secure relationships with others.  In conjunction with our core learning values, at SJS, we aim for our pupils to:

● Have the ability to solve problems independently and learn interpersonal skills to work efficiently and collaboratively with others.
● Celebrate differences and achievements thus showing an awareness and consideration for others (empathy)
● Have a ‘can-do’ attitude; we promote resilience and risk-taking by encouraging children to be confident in ‘having a go’ and to experience situations and learning ‘out of their comfort zone’
● Develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community
