Our Physical and Mental Health

The PSHE curriculum at SJS aims to develop children's knowledge and understanding of how to be healthy in mind and body.  We want to develop learners who are emotionally resilient and have the skills to deal with changes and challenges in their lives.

PSHE is embedded in all that we do to enable our children to become independent, responsible, healthy and confident members of society. Our PSHE curriculum has been built with the aim of supporting the development of the ‘whole child’, by helping children to understand how they are developing personally and socially as well as promoting their mental and physical development. Children will grow their ability to tackle the moral, social and cultural issues that are part and parcel of growing up.

The units of work aim to build children’s understanding of themselves and others in their immediate community and develop the skills to secure relationships with others.  In conjunction with our core learning values, at SJS, we aim for our pupils to:

● Have the ability to solve problems independently and learn interpersonal skills to work efficiently and collaboratively with others.
● Celebrate differences and achievements, thus showing an awareness and consideration for others (empathy)
● Have a ‘can-do’ attitude; we promote resilience and risk-taking by encouraging children to be confident in ‘having a go’ and to experience situations and learning ‘out of their comfort zone’
● Develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community
