Our School

Latest News - Shirley Junior SchoolShirley Junior School is a 3-form entry junior school situated in the Shirley area of Southampton. We are a vibrant community of learners who are dedicated to being the best we can be. We aim to ensure that no matter a child's starting point, all children make the progress they deserve and feel that they belong, achieve and thrive.

At Shirley Junior School, the development of the whole child is at the heart of everything we do. Our curriculum is dynamic and continually evolving to inspire moral, spiritual, creative, and academic growth. We believe that strong relationships are key to success. Our dedicated staff strive to know every child as an individual, recognising their unique talents and qualities. Within this nurturing environment, we uphold a proud tradition of high achievement and progress. Partnerships with parents are central to our approach, as we work together to ensure every child thrives.

We are proud of the values we hold most dear and the exemplary students that pass through our doors. Our emphasis on learning, teaching and outstanding behaviour is reflected in our vision and values and our pupils are also renowned for their success in extra-curricular sporting activities at a local and national level. We have high expectations and high aspirations for every one of our children. We encourage our children to be individuals and to take responsibility for their choices as well as teaching them about tolerance and respect towards others. Our aim is to ensure that each child has access to the best possible opportunities and experiences during their education, so that they can make progress they are proud of, and so that they are well-prepared for the future.

Our Governors play an active role in the life of the school, working closely with leaders to drive improvement. They provide both challenge and support, using a wide range of information to accurately evaluate the impact of leadership decisions.

Shirley Junior and Shirley Infant School staff teams collaborate to ensure smooth transitions and excellent progress from Year R through to Year 6. We are also proud to be part of the Jefferys Education Partnership (JEP), which belongs to the wider Hamwic Education Trust, a multi-academy trust committed to excellence in education.
