Week 10 (22nd June)

Hello Year 5,

Another great week of learning - well done Year 5!

Below is the work for week 10.

We love having a look at your favourite piece of work each week so don't forget to send one piece of work that you are most proud of to:

y5teachers@shirleyschools.co.uk

Remember to keep doing your reading reflections and reading tasks on Reading Plus/ Reading Owls and also to keep practising your times tables using TT Rockstars as well.  When you use Reading Plus, there is an online message system in which you can talk to your teachers. We would love it if you could chat to us, as we are desperate to know how you are all doing!

If you have a login for Doodle Maths, please remember to use that daily, it will help you keep your skills up to date!

We are now only uploading prior learning for literacy and we encourage the children to work independently through these tasks.

Maths and literacy (for this week) is going to be new learning - please email if this becomes too tricky.

We have uploaded the Maths and Literacy in both PDF and WORD format to make completing the work easier for you. The PDF format is printer friendly and for those of you who don't have a printer, the Word worksheets are fully editable.

Maths:

There are 3 main tasks for maths this week. This week we are focusing on Comparing and Ordering fractions that are less than 1.

Task 1 can be found by clicking on the video link below which goes through how to compare and order fractions that are less than 1.

Task 2 is a series of practise style questions that the children can try and answer independently.

Task 3 focuses on more reasoning and explaining linked to the maths they have been practising. There is also a challenge question which the children can have a go at too.

There are also 5-a-day worksheets, which we encourage the children to complete daily.

Answers to all of the Maths can be found at the end of the document.

Literacy:

The literacy work follows a similar format to the maths. This week's focus is inverted commas.

Lesson 1 teaches the skill or writing genre that the children will be revising.

Lesson 2 allows children to practise and develop linked skills.

Lesson 3 focuses on applying the skill to their writing.

There are also 5-a-day worksheets, which we encourage the children to complete daily.

Answers to the Literacy 5-a-day questions and skills tasks can be found at the end of the document.

Spellings

We will now be focussing on the year 5 and 6 statutory spellings

Yellow Group:

You only need to complete these tasks if you are in Yellow Group. These children have been sent a separate MarvellousME to instruct them to complete this work. These worksheets are also uploaded in both PDF and Microsoft Word format and the answers to these questions can also be found at the end of the document.
